Disk Crashed. Windows Re-Installed. thinBasic Won't Install.

    Hi Folks,

My hard disk crashed completely a few weeks ago..

I re-installed Windows (XP PS3) on a new disk and have been progressively rebuilding it.

I tried re-installing thinBasic (1.7.7.0) from a backup of the downloaded installation file. It won't install. There is no error message

I will download the new version, but I don't want to have to rework all that I have done, if some instructions that were present in version 1.7.7.0 are not supported in the new version.

If I do strike any problems, is there a link where I can download a fresh copy of the latest stable 1.7.x.x version?

(Also, from memory, version 1.7.x.x works on Windows 95. That would be advantageous for something I have in mind.)

    Thanks,

    Peter H. (gungadout)

    Hi Folks,

It looks like I've got a Windows problem of some description.

    thinBasic 1.8.0.0 won't install either.

I turned off the virus scanner, but that made no difference.

I get the message box "This will install thinBasic. Do you wish to continue?" I click on the Yes button. An hourglass appears for a split second, then nothing more happens.

thinBasic is the first program I have had a problem with when re-installing into the new Windows environment.

    Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Regards,

    Hi Folks,

A computer restart fixed the problem, for some reason.

I'm sorry but it is quite difficult to understand possible reasons.
After the "Yes" button setup starts loading setup logic and internal data.

I suspect it starts to expand some files in default temporary directory.
Try to see what is the temporary directory opening a Console window and type SET
It will show all environment variables among which you will see TEMP=... and/or TMP=...
    See if that directory exists.

Also try to cleanup temp files using Windows cleaup tool, it should be (if I remember well) under Start\Applications\Accessories\System tools\ ...

    Ciao
