If you will have the opportunity to think about a game for a present or to play, think at Spore I bought it for my son but we finish to play together for hours.
It is a great game completely different from usual games. It is big to explore, full of nice ideas, different every time.

Hi Eros,

I just played the "Creature Designer" demo, it seems they use metaballs/isosurfaces + polygon objects to model characters.
Very interesting, but I guess my PC would not breath out full game :)

Anyway ... maybe I posted it earlier, but the developers of Spore released their game prototypes:

how far are you in the game :)? Are you still a simple creature in sea or "being" already?
How fast it can be finished? Is it based on short time, but every time different experience or is does it take longer to complete?

Michael ... after watching that video ... world is no more the same :P

My son is at the 3rd or 4th level of creature. He get the Tribu level. So still a lot to go.
But this only on one planet and there are a lot of planets. Maybe also different galaxies but I do not know for sure.

Also the creature editor is much much better than the one distributed free. You can build not only creatures but also buildings, vehicles, ships, airplanes, space ships.
So I think it will take a long time to play because it is so different every time.
