I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the General Community forum. It's hard to descide; there are too many spots. How can you find anything? :P Of course, in some respects, this forum is easier to navigate than some other forums. At least, you have a place for nearly everything.
Having said all that, does the Karma feature work the same way that I have seen it elsewhere? After so many posts, a member can raise the karma of others for a good job, well done? And, a limit to how many karma points can be awarded per hour or per day?
Karma is definitely an interesting idea. We are always finding ways to compete with one another ... even if it is subtle, aren't we?
Mark
(P.S. - wish I could program better so I could be awarded some karma. ;D)
I don't believe you have to reach a certain post limit before giving karma but I do know that there's a time restriction on how often you can give it.
Btw, I've given you some karma for asking an interesting question. ;)

Thank you. I wasn't expecting that.

Hi Marcus and welcome here on the forum,
the good thing with the karma here is that you have to give a comment on why you gave the karma.
Cheers

Yes, there are some rules for using karma here. We wanted karma to be a useful tool for user feeling.
You need to do a minimum of 10 posts before been able to set karma points.
When setting a karma point (plus or minus) you have to state a reason. I think this is a very important point because it gives some kind of responsibility on both sides.
You can see all reasons in karma stats (bottom of the home page or user profile) or in user profiles (see your profile for example). You get who, why, and where a karma point was assigned.
You have to wait 1 hour till you can change karma point for the same user
Arriving into a forum where there is already some years of history is not simple at first, I can understand it: a lot of posts, a lot of sub-forum, many different arguments and interests. I can say that all the forums present here have their "why" it was created. Telling all the "why" now is impossible for me.
So, feel free to ask and we will do our best to reply. Because of this forum is dedicated to support a programming language, I think the trick can be to start somewhere developing something with that programming language and ask on that. If you will stay enough with us I'm sure you will get all very quickly.
As you have seen (or will see), thinBasic project development and community is quite well alive. We implement very quickly almost all users requests so thinBasic language have a lot of new features and possibilities almost every month. See list of changes in help at: http://www.thinbasic.com/public/products/thinBasic/help/html/whatsnew.htm
This approach can has a negative side effect: for people just starting it can be very hard to follow the project at first (see http://community.thinbasic.com/index.php?topic=802.0 ). Anyhow I'm sure you will like it in the long run.
Ciao
