I saw lots of new interesting posts, but I am reconfiguring my computers and don't have thinBasic back on yet to try out all the cool new goodies I see.
Will comment when I get a chance to run the neat scripts, but thanks in advance!!

It seems you are calculating a much longer pause then usual for redoing a system. Anyway, have a good time with whatever you do.

Mike, I was trying to put all my coding stuff onto one computer and use the other for gaming, but in the process of testing things out messed both up again. So now I am experimenting like crazy with various things before I redo again. I tried out different ide's and languages to see what has been happening. For C++ I really like code::blocks. I installed freepascal and really like it, but so many support sites are dead linked. It is a shame as I really like freepascal.

Java is looking better and better to me too with things I have seen being demo'd like jME the java monkey game engine. Also I found out you can native compile Java if you need to. So it is on my exploration list now.

I also came upon 3d in flash. Papervision3D, FlashDeveloper, Flex SDK, AIR SDK, all free that allows you to do incredible things. I will be tinkering a lot with it this week and hope to put together a video tutorial on putting all the tools together to get started.

I am also thinking of dedicating a computer to programming that runs only on linux. I figure this way I will have and use tools that I know will be cross platform.
I know that portable devices and not being bound to a desk is the future. I want to make sure I have my options open to go with these types of devices.

If you want to see one of the longest game installs I have ever seen, try company of heroes opposing fronts. The Disk install takes a long time, then they got at least 6 or 7 patch downloads that take forever. It is amazing the game even runs after all the downloads. I will dread having to reinstalling it twice withint 2 weeks :)

Wow, what a journey through development land. :) I will experience something similar soon as I'm about to by a MAC soon. A friend of mine asked me to help porting a windows game over to the mac so I need a machine to devleop on of course. That will be interesting.

Mike, that sounds really exciting getting to play with a Mac.

You might want to check out Unity, looks like an awesome engine for the Mac. It can compile to other OS's but runs on the Mac.

Have you picked out what kind of Mac you will get?

We will port it to BlitzMax. I have an 20" IMAC on my list, or a MAC Mini.
I would love to get a MacBook Pro but that is out of my financial reach.

I played with the imac at the apple store when I was there visiting my Sister. They have an apple store where she lives. It was very nice.
The mac mini is sure priced right, but I didn't ever have a chance to play with one. Enjoy your new tech family member whichever one you go with and good luck with the port!
