This one is on tab spaces... for indentation.
Which do you prefer?

Why do you hold such a poll?

I think it is interesting to see what people like and don't and sort of plan for things.

For instance, I think at coding monkeys we did one about screen resolutions, and there was no need to worry about supporting 640x480
and very little 800x600, although I sort of still plan for that resolution if I can. Probably should hold the poll again this year and see if any
800x600 users are even on.

I use 800x600. With higher resolutions, the text is too small for my tired eyes.

This small resolutions become more used again with smartphones and subnotebooks (like the eepc) but you will not do main programing tasks on these things. (but can). On desktops its going up and 1024 is standard or minimium. (i even surf pages with 1900x1200 or 1200x1900 (portrait-rotation) with less scrolling nowadays which was impossible some years ago.). even if resolutions become more available. many people prefer 1024 or 1280 on their 15 or 17 or even bigger laptop screens to make the text bigger. another thing is, that on a mac you dont always maximize your windows to fullscreen like on a pc, and do more overlapping of windows and size them to the needed width.

for me indentation level depends on the app i am using and the font i use. in VIM you can easily do this with :set ts=4 (set tabsize=4). the user should decide in preferences what he likes.

Hi,

José, one my family member uses 1280x1024 + big fonts scheme in Windows, could be the way?
I prefer 1280x1024 and higher ( when possible ).

Interesting data from service I know Kent does not like :) : Steam survey (http://www.steampowered.com/status/survey.html). Processors, graphic cards and their driver versions ... all in one place. Of course it is targeted to gamers and not "normal" people, but still it offers interesting results.

Regarding TABs, I use 2 but I know 3 are better for IFs :)

Bye,
Petr

Common resolutions depend on the task. I'm sure developers use 1024x768 or more. But a lot of casual gamers prefer 800x600. So it all depends on what kind of application you develop and what the market is you develop for.

Petr, it is not that I don't like steam, but I don't like being obligated by games I buy to make me use it.
We've been talking about playing on our own served games, but no luck in getting it to work, when in all other games
we have no problems figuring out how to do our own served games.

Lots of interesting info at the link, nice find and thanks for sharing the link.

Your recommendation to Jose is one I agree with too, it does work nicely for getting higher resolution but keeping readability.
