We are considering to stop supporting Win98, WinME operating systems.

What is your opinion?

Thanks
Eros

I dont see any problems with that for me.

http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_os.asp These statistics are generall, not specified to home usage or company/organization... By statistics it's a wise solution.

I think it is a good idea, when you think that we are talking OS from 10 years ago and longer. Hard to believe, but it is the case.

Hi Eros,

this questions stalks around my mind for long time.

It would make lot of things even for me much easier - TBGL could use GDIIMAGE to load any textures without any problem then ( I think :D ) and XP drivers ( especially ATi ones ) are much more reliable.

If you will move in that direction, it would be nice to make last STABLE for Win9x systems always available on website, to not make feel those users just kicked off as they did lot for thinBASIC - would there be catventures TAB without Win9x support?

Current thinBASIC is very, very powerful. I think if it be marked as last Win9x, and made available on website in special section, while XP+ only in another it would be fair.

I was also WinME user, just half year ago. I hated tools WinXP only, but this way I think it would be acceptable.

Maybe some poll could be launched for this too?

Bye,
Petr

Good idea Petr.

What I can do is:

stop developing thinBasic 1.x.y.z version sometime during next months but keeping sources available as parallel stopped project.
Support for version 1.x.y.z will be given only for bug fixing but no further development of new features.
at the same time open new development line for version 2.x.y.z compatible only for Win2k or above OS.

I think this can be a fair option that will not close any chance to execute thinBasic even on older OS.

Ciao
Eros

I agree with Petr, a poll could be useful to specify the thinBasic user-base.

Pool created. Posts merged.
If more options are needed, let me know.

I vote to drop Win9x support. The version 2 approach sounds good to me.

I voted the third choice... seems like a nice solution to me.

Hi,

just going sentimental again :D so if 1.6.0.1 will be last version for Win9x/ME, I will release TBGL 0.2.2 for them.
It will be more maintenance release + few arrangements than functionality megabomb, but I hope you will like it.
It will target few topics which would be unfair to mark as possible in WindowsXP only.

Do not expect too much, but I hope it will make coding easier with a bit of more freedom.

Bye,
Petr

I agree Mike, am curious too...
THanks Petr, I am sure it will be a nice progression in tbgl!
