Hi Eros,

did you tried it yet?
I installed Visual Studio 2005 Express for C# as I thought I might need it last summer ( finally not :) ) and the IDE took quite long too load and ate big chunk of memory. Is this better in 2008, did they deobjectised C# :P ?

Bye,
Petr

I will stay away from the express editions and if I need a C/C++, I'll go with the free alternatives.

After deinstalling the last edition of express, I could not get VC++6 to work on my comp anymore. Bad bad.

No, I didn't install yet.
But I installed some time ago 2005 version of C# and VB.net without problems.

Anyhow, I will test Visual C++ 2008 soon and I will let you know. Other languages I do not care.

Mike you might be interested to know that now with the free MSVS 2008 C++ express, you can also download and use for free non commercial projects DarkSDK, from the game creators.

I haven't downloaded either yet, but will on my notebook as I am using that for testing at the moment. I always wanted to see and use the SDK, it should be interesting.

A little tip for anyone wanting to install and of the express products on other machines without doing mutilple downloads. I found this out with 2005 but it still works.

once you have downloaded and run the installer leave it on the item selection screen and look in the %TEMP% for a folder called SIT**** the stars being numbers inside is a file called DeleteTemp.exe rename it or delete it now create a new text file (make sure its blank) and rename that deletetemp.exe.

now download the bits you want (that could be upto almost 400 MB).

After the installation look in the %TEMP% folder and you will find the install files. VC++2008 were in a folder called 2008***

copy the files out you now have the install file to use on another computer, you will still need an activation code.

This process is the same for the other prodcuts just the folder names are different.

Have Fun

Mike
