View Full Version : New thinBasic slogan

Here we are again with the choose of a good slagan to be used in conjunction with next thinBasic logo.
Starting from a previous post (http://community.thinbasic.com/index.php?topic=793.0) where there was some nice and clever ideas, I take all of them and reported here in a poll.
Poll rules:
max of 8 votes
you can change your vote at any time (I think new slogans will be added during the poll life)
as far as the poll will manage new items, I will add them. If too much, I will start to remove the ones with less votes. Removed slogans will still be listed here, just in case
Please suggest new slogans if you have some more and I will add them all (hope to not pass number of possible options). And sorry if I forgot some already suggested slogans, please just remember them again here and I will add into the poll.
Thanks a lot
Eros

"ThinBasic It's not just Basic"
"ThinBasic It's time to Develope"

Thanks Eros,
poll is nice.
Just my "Ultimate scripting experience", "The way it was meant to be scripted" were passed in kind of joke, as they are just mutations of NVIDIA "The way it was meant to be played" and ATi/AMD's "Ultimate visual experience".
So I am not sure if there would not be ( is this correct English :P ) some night visits from card manufacturers with AK-47.
Also people could make impression "they really did not solved the motto for long, just stealed it from somenone". My fault :(
Bye,
Petr

OK, I just removed "The way it was meant to be scripted".
The other one has already a vote and I think it is quite general to be free to be used.
Thanks

can you take the "e" off the end of develop
:-[
I suggested "Powerful Scripting for People", but it doesn't sound very good. Feel free to take it off the list.
Now I'm just brainstorming.....
Fast and Powerful Programming for Everyone
Power and Speed, Programming for Everyone
Lightening Fast, Easy to Use
Fast, Powerful, and Friendly
Fast, Easy, Does what you want
Fast Powerful, Extensible
Small, Light, Fast, Powerful, Friendly
anything look interesting.... ?

As far as the poll will manage new items, I will add them.
If too much I will remove the one with less votes.
We will see :D
Ciao and thanks
Eros
I would add Petr's last slogan for his last logo with the 2 faces, it works really nice with that design in my opinion.
"21th century Basic for everyone"

ThinBASIC volant scripts manent.
Michael Clease
20-09-2007, 10:22
Roberto what does that translate to in englsh?
I know Volant means
"Represented as flying, or having the wings spread as in flight. Applied to a bird; as, an eagle volant"
what does Manent mean?
in latin it means "permanency"

Abraxas,
do not worry about Roberto thoughts: he is in a bad day today ;D
In any case, that sentence is taken from a Latin way of saying that is: verba volant, scripta manent.
That into English can be something like: words go away but written words (on paper usually) remain.
It is used in many cases when you want to be sure agree rules will be respected, so it is better to write donw them and agree on paper and not just orally.
In this case, "thinBasic volant" seems a bad view of thinBasic and not a positive one.

Maybe better is "Scripta volant" (volant also means fast).
Scripta volant, thinBasic manent.
(Just a joke :D )
RobertoBianchi
20-09-2007, 10:55
Eros,
why you think bad? Look to positive!
Volant means Volare (fly in english).
However for better interpreter the latin motto I propose the following:
ThinBASIC volant velox et scripts manent.
Ciao,
Roberto

Yes,
Scripta volant velox, thinBasic manent!

or maybe it should be...
È molto veloce e bello
Sorry if I have mangled your beautiful language.

Unfortunately, no. Accomplished only with the help of BableFish (http://babelfish.altavista.com)
And I am quite embarrassed that the English language skills in this forum are superior to my own as a native speaker.

Eros, what are your latest thoughts on this?
Is it worth drawing up a short list, clearing the votes and getting people to re-vote.
ErosOlmi
01-10-2007, 14:07
Well,
I'm quite ready to get the slogan. I will get the one having first position. Every user can even now cancel vote and re-vote as many times as he likes.
At the same time I will choose the logo from the logo thread.
Currently we need to finish thinBasic version 1.4.0.1
Whan stable release will be out I will get a decision about logo and slogan.

I highly suggest...
much more thibasic-like slogan:
"Code preety fast, run really fast."
(Google checked, all OK, hurry-up if you like this!!!)
explanation:
preety fast = (programming simplicity + syntax clarity) + fast development.
really fast = proof of concept, work out of the box.
P.S.: I am very amazed with thinBasic, otherwise it would be impossible to think of these.

I know I'm late, I just voted on the poll....I've been thinking of one. How about:
"When they say it can't be done, that's when they use thinBasic!" ?
ErosOlmi

You are not late as far as we didn't make any choose yet. Your slogan has been added.
Thanks a lot for this slogan especially if you really think that :)

Most definitely. I can't hide or mask the truth as they say. It's really simple, if thinBasic was also for linuix (I have too many needs for linux lol maybe I should go on a low Linux diet lol)....but if it was for Linux, it would probably be the only language I'd have on the PC. ;-)...it's by far, the most complete language I've seen and the fastest interpreter I've seen. and well, let's face it, the thinBasic community is among the best out there.
EDIT: Hey, I got another idea.... "thinBasic really puts the All-Purpose in BASIC!" ;-)

Thanks a lot for this positive injection.

:o
Exaggerated ;D
Anyway added to the list.
I got an idea.
Since thinBasic is so powerful and easy to use, why not use all of the slogans?
Using arrays it can bring up a random slogan from the array when and where a slogan is to be displayed :)
Hi,
"Our everyday BASIC need..."
How does it sounds?

(Based on my limited time using it.)
thinBASIC, the future of the past
thinBASIC, it grows with you
thinBASIC, FOR $US = 86 TO $MSVB
thinBASIC, DO $IT UNTIL $UR > $GATES
(Ok, the last two were just for fun also...)

Hi Eros,
since it is allmost 2 years now since you asked for suggestions now, whne do you want to pick a slogan?
Michael
ErosOlmi
15-06-2009, 20:44
:D hey Michael didn't you see that I already picked it?
The most voted slogan is already under thinBasic logo on top of page here in forum.
But you know: if more clever ideas will come I can change.
Very soon the new web site will be online too.

Ok, I thought it was temporary.
ErosOlmi

It got 16 preferences so it is the most voted.
If there will be another one with more votes maybe I will change.
So far it seems to me simple but effective.

I was hoping that the the slogan had been chosen so the poll could be removed from the main page as I find its getting very slow to view on my phone and if you take the same approach to the site as you do to TB then speed is the issue.

Let it be THICKBASIC, or BASIC FAT XXL.
the only basic interpreter - still maintained after 20 years -capable of doing more things than the tools where it was created with - and no one would be angry when actually the 64bit-self-compiling pseudo-interpreter is under construction - everyone knows that thickbasic 2.0 will be better, and nothing will be lost forever in the past- it will be able to launch and run current thinbasic-core-module code, in x86-compatibility mode it will even be possible to run stuff thats based on the Win32Api
.
I just wonder what assembler you will use and it would not surprise me when it were the currently as thinbasic-module integrated o2 would provide the base for a basic-language that doesn't care about old fashioned rules as "a basic language is either compiled or interpreted".
What if the interpreter works on the rule to do whatever it needs to get a task completed with the best of possible results, were able to select often used function-parts from a library of pre-compiled routines and decides to compile a function just in time - when it's advantageous to combine it, appears to be needed and the highest possible amount of knowledge is available or when the required parameters are present.
Multi-threaded of course - when preparsing leads to the conclusion that a function should be compiled- drop the facts at he compiler and have it getting busy that the function - build with these situation-specific parameters is ready when the parser has finished the look-around-phase.
15 year old survey, i laugh myself to death, why does it have sooo many options to choose from?
