Hi gui,

I'm searching for a new logo for thinBasic to be used in all theinBasic material: web site, forum, help, ...
If someone have free time and would like to get the challenge, please ... :D

To help you started, find here attached True Type font used for current logo.

Thanks a lot
Eros

Important:
in case you would like to get the challenge, please remember you will need to send me full material you created (maily graphics files in whatever program you used to create the logo) without future claiming any copyright. Merits will be credited in all documentation materials.

Nice start Mike, thanks for sharing. I guess we should ask Eros, does he want a 3d or 2d look, more to appeal to young tech guys or look more professional and corporate.
Does he want vector or jpg/png type? Is there a slogan that they agreed upon to tie into it? So the more info you give us Eros the more we can make something to fit the bill.

I am just going to wait for Mike to finish his logos, then I will borrow one of his and add some lens flare to take the win, just kidding, but now that I write it, not a bad idea :)

Michael Hartlef
05-09-2007, 21:27
Do whatever you want Kent. :) I'm not in for the win, I'm in to help. And I do it my style. If Eros would not pick one of them then it would be fine with me too. :)

Ken, just brainstormig so not precise idea. I'm really open to any example and, do not be afraid about the bill: I've already payed all :D (joking)

I'm really open to any example, 2D or 3D. Maybe we can agree all together at the end to something the most will like.

Personally I like tech related logos that are:
not too much complicated
not too much ... renascimental (I mean futuristic is better than old style ;) )

Mike, good start. I like them all but not the strong green color :P.

I have no graphic design skills, and cannot offer a logo design, but may I offer a thought?

To me, thinBasic is as much about the people involved as it is a programming language. By that, I mean there is a very strong human element to thinBasic. It is more than just a shiny tool that you might buy at a hardware store. Through this forum we learn about and get to know the developers, contributors, members, and even new people such as myself. We share in each others lives just a little bit. A logo that somehow incorporates this human element could convey warmth and trust rather than just cold technology.

With my warmest regards, ;)

Randall

Good thought Randall, how about this slogan?

thinBasic, the programmin language for people

Randall, how would you imagine a logo could look like?

Randal,

you catch a consideration I didn't think about. To me it seems so natural the human factor here that I just realise how it can be very important.
If we will be able to insert this idea in the logo it will be great.

Thanks a lot for this suggestion

The only cons I can see is that all guy are looking the same so they seems controllers in MATRIX movie :D
But I really like it! How did you create it? What application?

Thank you Abraxas.

Randall, how would you imagine a logo could look like?

Perhaps a graphic along the lines of the logo used by Henckels knives. I think it needs to be pretty simple, but I admit I know little about graphic design or logos.

There are many very talented people in this forum that can design a logo, and it would be very nice to see a forum member do it.

However, if there is desire (or need) to go outside, I'll mention that the forums at sitepoint.com have a design contest section. http://www.SitePoint.com is a site dedicated to web site developers, and the design contest section allows creative, technical, and business people to hook up with each other. To get a logo (or other material) designed, a person starts a design contest and usually specifies a fee to be paid to the contest winner. The contest does not have to carry a fee, but there should be some incentive for the designers. Once the design contest is posted, graphic designers will start submitting their entries. The contest holder comments on them and can ask for changes. At some point, the contest holder chooses a winner.

This might be worth checking out. This is also a site where it may be good to start gently introducing thinBasic as a web server scripting language, since this site is all about web site development.

Just another thought....

Randall,

thanks for the tip !
I am sure not all members here posted their version of logo yet, but it is good to have backdoor ready too.

I decided to try something different. The idea was to use a font that could be many things...
First it is roundy, more people friendly.
Second it is playful, but not overly
and third it is Fat, so a nice contrast to the name thinBasic.

It also has a universal look that it can be in anytime and still fit, past, future and present.

The lens flare I had to throw in as an inside joke, but it adds an element of slickness and of the future too.

Again trying something different, thinking about the word "Engine". So came up with a plate look that might be stamped on a new engine somewhere :)

how about a new tag line

TB
Watch out its catching!

Im not an artist so this was easier.

kryton9
09-09-2007, 05:40
That is funny Abraxas, but perhaps TB is not the same in other languages, but in English, TB also stands for Tuberculosis, a contagious lung disease, so TB, watch out its catching is a good play on words!

This one is just taking Randall's example and applying it to thinBasic. Mike can model better people than I can, so if Eros likes this one, maybe Mike can make a version with his touch. Anyways another one to add to the list :)

Kent, look into the MakeHuman app for Blender!

Petr Schreiber
09-09-2007, 11:11
Hi,

MakeHuman is interesting project indeed, so far I created nice monsters using it :)

Kent, your picture is nice, I can almost see it like animation.

Imagine this B&W scene, just the floor and letters. Then there will come more and more people and start to play on the big letters like on drums. This effort will result in fading the letters to color ( thin orange, BASIC blue ). Then there will popup the sentence - "thinBASIC, scripting for people" or something underlining the community factor of tB.
Well, quite tough to do I think, but the picture invoked this scene in my mind.

Petr

Ken,

I like very much your example! WOW.

A personal note:
the idea that come to my mind at first see it is that "we are building thinBasic". Humans are building thinBasic letters.
So maybe humans should be faced on the other side of thinBasic letters and building something else. What do you think?

In any case it remains brilliant. Can I use somewhere in the web?
Thanks so much.

You guys are very creative ! Nice work !

I have a question. What does the tag-line "Your automation script engine..." mean?

Is the language targeted towards system administrators, or does this have something to do with factory automation? Seems to me this language is powerful and multi-purpose. When I think thinBasic, I think "Powerful scripting for people...".

I'm not suggesting changing the tag-line, but being new here, I don't know the history of the language or the direction the developers want to take. What do you guys want people to think when they hear/see the term "thinBasic"?

Randall

ErosOlmi
09-09-2007, 18:14
You are again right on this feeling.

That tag-line was from the very beginning of thinBasic project when thinBasic was nothing more than a little automation application reading few lines of instructions, and interpreting them in ordert o make sequential operations.

In the past we started a thread in order to find a new motto: http://community.thinbasic.com/index.php?topic=793.0
As usual thinBasic users come out with nice ideas but I didn't consider them at that time. I have to give my excuses on that.

Maybe new logo is also the right time to reconsider this aspect.

Thanks for refreshing it.

Glad you guys liked it, but the idea came from Randall's post and also inspired by what Mike an Petr had done.

Mike and Petr, makehuman, wow that sounds nice, I have to look that up!!

Eros, you can use anything here that is why they are up, but I don't mind working on it more.

I didn't put the people in front as it would cover the letters, I thought about your idea at first too.

This one is more like Petr's interpretation, the people are playing thinBasic, or using it like at a console or instrument panel.

What i was thinking of adding to the background, was list of what can be done with thinBasic instead of that white wall.
So the list would be on the wall but not as strong as the rest of the image.

So once we can finalize on ideas I can work on it with pleasure!

Here is a test I did tonight, trying to get that community building thinBasic idea... since it was a test, I found this photo of that guy with his arm up with the sun and I altered it quite a bit and sort of made thinBasic logo a part of the picture... even if I had done a crowd holding up thinBasic, I don't think it is going to work, but it was fun working on this.

I will go back and tweak the other one a lot more and see what else I can come up with.

Due to it's simplicity, I like this one from Michael Hartlef:

I also like this one: http://community.thinbasic.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1163.0;attach=1598;image

Very simple and at the same time very effective and witha clear and precise view.
What about a 3rd face with a 3rd color for the motto? Yes, the motto: we need to change it too.

Thanks a lot

Hi guys, thanks for the king words. I'm very tired now, so I will come up with something tommorow.
But I attached the inkscape file, so if you guys wanna go ahead and take Eros comments into consideration, then feel free to do so.

Randall, I like your tag line, but I would change the scripting into something else. Scripting sounds so low powered to me.

Good one Petr, I will try to enhance my latest version tonight. Was to busy the last two days. Questions, what does the circle symbolizes? Suggestion: Orange and RED clash IMO.

Petr Schreiber
18-09-2007, 12:39
Hi Mike,

the circle and curves on it should make impression of something rotating forward quite fast - thats visual reference to the "fast interpreter". Kind of Sonic The Hedgehog effect :D

Also could be understood as "language in fast and continuous developement".

I thought orange and red is quite normal autumn combination, but here is version with weaker color fight :)

Nice one Petr.

I've got a mail this mornig talkinga about REVOLTEC compuetr case and mods. Revoltec logo is quite similar but more aggressive, see it at http://www.revoltec.de/index3.htm
I think the round circle should be a little bit smaller, maybe. What do you think?

And definitely we need a new motto (I repeat myself). Who wants to make a poll with some options to vote for?

Thanks you
Eros

Petr Schreiber
18-09-2007, 13:15
Hi Eros,

how much smaller :D
Like on the attached ?

Regarding slogan, I was thinking about it but cannot invent anything usable yet :(
But it is sure motto should have higher priority now, as if logo wont reflect it, it would be bad.

red circle
gray circle
"thinBASIC"
slogan

They can be moved, recolored, everything. But I am not sure I understand your question now :-[

I have it in vector format for Expression 3 ( XPR ).

Is something of it acceptable for you ?

Oh man, you guys are coming up with incredible designs!! The are all favorites as they are so cool and get the point across.
I do like the last slogan that Petr put in, I don't think it is on the Poll, but maybe the slogans with the logo will be easier to judge.
If I just saw the slogan in the poll without the logo, I wouldn't vote for it, but with that last logo Petr did it has everything!!

On Mike's latest goodies, although I have a deep affection for Red, Black and White as a combo... it comes out a little too strong.
I like white orange red a bit more.

Both Petr's and Mike's slogans are very good for the logos. I am just so impressed with your guys creativity and building on previous versions. This is really some great work!!

Since this thread hasn't been used in almost a year, I didn't know if the "new" logo had been decided upon or not. If it has, I'm sorry for being a year late. I should have found thinBasic years ago. >:(

But, for whatever it is worth: this is my favorite out of all the logos presented here, although most are really good and could be used as well if Eros wanted to.
