Hi Guys, I have been thinking of buying a graphics tablet for some time. I know the WACOM tablets are highly regarded, but every time I go to place an order, the price keeps pushing me away. They are premium priced, and I shutter to think of spending so much for a tablet, when I am just a hobbyist. I was wondering what you guys used and if you had any other recommendations?

If you want to see a dream tablet in action, look at what artist guru Bert Monroy uses. This thing is sweet!

Thats amazing I havent really looked at tablets since i was repairing them back in the early nineties and they seem to have moved on a bit more like touch screens now.

I have a WACOM Graphire 3 and would allways go again with a WACOM. The size is totally enough for what I do.

Hi Kent,

I have the lowest in series model from Wacom ( no more in shops, "Volito" or similar name ).
It is tiny one, I think A6, but it has 512 levels of pressure and "right mouse button" on the body.
It contains transparent clingfilm you can put paper behind ( when trying to replicate something already painted it is handy ). I like it.

Todays tablets are probably much more advanced, but I have no info about them.

I think it makes no sense to buy something super at first, important are tools which support it.
I got with tablet Fractal Design Painter and it is perfect. Too bad I am not artist :D

Also "Expression 3" is very nice editor for drawing with tablets.

Sadly I don't know anybody else having such a device in my neighbourhood, so cannot say more.

Bye,
Petr

Here the small graphire is $100, the 8x6 which many recommend is over $200. I might just try one of the budget ones I get ads for time to time... 8x6 for $70. But not sure, I guess I will wait some more. Thanks for the info guys.

Get the bigger size only if you are tracing bigger pictures. I would allways go for the WACOM as its drivers simply work. I use it in Photoshop6 and ZBrush3. Perfect.

You guys seem to have more choices in Europe for tablets than we do. Nice to see different models, thanks for the links!
