Hi,

here is a first version of ThinBASIC screen saver gadget.
It's a first experimental version of screen saver that actually holds five temporary pictures.
I would like to replace the five photographies with specific (and of course more contingent) ThinBASIC stuff related picture, so please feel free to propose your ThinBASIC picture.
Please note that you can see how yours pictures appear simple specifying the folder that holds the pictures in the screensaver setup.
As usual don't forget to post your suggestions or issues found.

The screensaver is build with C# and it requires the Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 to run.

Thank you very much and best regards,
Roberto

Hi,

if I understand it correctly it connects to net to view latest posts ?
It is very nice, delay for messages could be longer, but this can be setup in properties of screensaver.

Few ideas - make it called "thinBASIC Screensaver" and not just "TBSS" which is quite cryptic :)
If I want to see every message for 2000ms, it takes ages to fade to full alpha. What about relatively quick fade in / out ( 10% of time ) so much longer period in which I can read the text ?

But I like the idea, at least my PC can do some good things when relaxing :)

Thanks,
Petr

Hi Petr,

yes, the screen saver collects news by readind RSS Feeds from Thinbasic site.
I changed the name from TBSS.scr to ThinBASIC Screen Saver.scr, sorry it was absolutely a bad marketing choice :'(
Also changed the alpha increment from 4 to 5 therefore the reading should be improved.
And finally changed the ThinAIR bundle picture with the ThinBASIC's help picture.

Ciao,
Roberto

Oh nooooooo.... I got the dreaded required .net framework message. I have taken all .net off of my desktop, sorry about that.

Fact is that from "marketing point of view" thinBASIC powered screensaver would be even cooler :P

.net is like the darkside of the force. But the empire is strong and growing and soon we will be in its total control, till the rebels strike.

Take a look at BOO, a neat language based on .net.... it is appealing that is for sure. I must resist!!

But have you seen before so many languages in one same framework?
Now is really the begin of a software revolution ... so come on rebels, strike!

Ok Roberto, you are right. I will stop using thinBasic and will move on to VB.NET. :)
Thanks for the advice. ;)

;D

I think with INET module + XML include ( to parse RSS ? ) + UI/TBGL we should be able to get similar result as this C# proggie.
I am just not sure how the forum headlines and contens are received. If it is some RSS stuff or parsed from page directly ?
Dark lord ( roberto :D ) knows ...

Something to test:

That worked perfectly Eros. I was able to create a new sub folder and install into that all through the dialog that came up and it put all the unread posts into it.

Will this automatically update that folder with the rss feed now with the latest posts?

RSS feed of thinBasic forum is online with user posts so as soon as a user made a post, the feed (if reloaded) should be updated.

There is a general forum feed and also one for every specific sub-forum. Just experiment using the RSS orange button present near to every sub-forum.
