Is there a limit on the number of replies a topic can have?

Thanks
Sandy

Biggest topic in this forum is http://community.thinbasic.com/index.php?topic=562.0
It has so far 229 replies.

I do not think there is a forum software imposed limit. It has just to deal with database relations. As far as there is disk space and index remain in the DWORD range all is ok.

Forum split big topics into pages of a certain number of replies. I can change how many replies per page in forum admin area. This is done in order to speed up web responses. It is much faster to returns just few replies maintaining the web page short rather than returning big web buffers.

Only one more question. I've noticed that some topics are marked locked. What does this mean?

Thanks
Sandy

Forum administrators and in some cases forum moderators have the option to close topics.
It means all other users will not be able to post any reply to that topic if locked.

There can be many reasons to to this. For example we use this behave in feature requests and bug report.
After we develop a feature requested by a user, we close that request.
After we fix a bug reported, we close that topic.
Is just a way to keep things clean and organized.

Another reason can be when we see someone started a flame or a forum war. We have the opportunity to close a discussione letting user understand it was too much. Luckily it is not already happen here.

Another reason can be when a topic is not anymore valid. For example if I post a temp fix for a problem (maybe attaching a file) and than that problem is solved in official release, usually I close that topic.

Of course if a user think it is better to continue a closed topic, he can ask here to re-open or open another one adding a link to the closed topic.

There can be other reasons. Different forums behave in different way. Sometimes it is just an admin taste or a way of conducting the forum. We prefer simple, organized, polite topics :D
