Nice soap opera. I will watch this as it is interesting, WHICH patents MS will claim.
Reading the article it sounds like defensive move and a way to send a message. How much of windows are ideas stolen from Apple and apple's ideas are from Xerox PARC. I think lawyers could spend years fighting these things. Everyone is in muddy water when it comes to GUI interfaces if you ask me.
It like mutually assured destruction with nuclear weapons. The best is never start the nuclear war and the same for these kind of stupid statements and actions.
My opinion of course.
