Hi all,
with the update of forum software to SMF 1.1.2 we have introduced Google Adsense.
Some ads will be present at the following position:
top of page
inside every threads after post 1, 3 and bottom.
We hope this will not make any trouble to you. If any, please let us know and we will try our best to limit ads.
Decisione to make this change was taken in order to to cover some of the project costs.
To be 100% transparent we will publish all check amounts we will receive from Google.
Current thinBasic hosting tech details and costs are the following:
Fireline 256
256 Kbit/s connectivity 100% guarantee - Max higher connection: 512Kbit/s for 1 full hour
Town 5.0 Storage Raid 1 dedicated server
Dell SC420 - P IV 2.8/1MB, 800 FSB - 2 HHD 160 GB SATA - 512 MB DDR2 Memory - Gigabit (1000Mbit/s)
Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition
540 Euro every 4 months
Server farm: http://webfarm.aruba.it/index_eng.asp
Eros, adsense ads from Google are not bad at all. If my site ever gets finished and hits go up, I will do the same. It is a very nice balance of free information and service to the user, but some money to cover your costs.

Hi Eros,
no problem for me, as I use AdBlock for Firefox so I don't see it.
Is Google Ads pricing based just on presence or viewing ?
I can stop blocking ads for this site if it will help you.
Bye,
Petr

Payments are per clicks but very few clicks generate payments :D
Never went in deep on this reasons. I suppose to avoid fraudolent multiple clicks, Google check user navigation on the site where the click will link. Sometimes 100 clicks generate 0 revenue, sometimes 1 click generate some cent revenue. In very few cases 1 single click generate more tha 1 dollar revenue, I suppose when that click gererate a purchase.
If someone know something ...

Don't go the Let me click 100 times route. Google tracks IP's too and they through you out faster then you can think.

:D
Also top of page and at post 1 and 3 of every message thread. Maybe you have some ADs buster active.
Yes, I know about Google AdSense policy click. I've also been informed from Google about that.
Last year I get 1 check of 102 USD from Google. Imagine? I spent about 25 Euro to cash it due to international transaction and bank Italian costs :D

Sorry, no popup blocker active in IE. No ads visible.
I am not seeing any ads either. Google doesn't use popups, so you think it would work. I see their ads on googlesearches and with my gmail just fine, so it can't be the browser, could it? I am as you know firefox 2
$105 is nice, I just bought a 500gigabyte external hard drive last night for $139+tax. It was a great deal, I couldn't refuse at Best Buy stores here.

Very strange.
I checked Firefox 2.0.0.3 and i see ads like I showed in the picture ...
What can it be? Personal firewall? Broser option? Some MS$ toolbar?
Made a video of my firefox to show you what I see and don't see Eros, hope it helps troubleshoot. I have no idea why it isn't working.

Ok, I see, No idea right now. I will try to investigate. Can you please clean the browser cache and see if it makes any difference?
Yesterday I changed php.ini config file in order to allow up to 5Mb uploads but it still have a 60 secs timeout.
This is necessary because our server have no high bandwidth and also to avoid too much long php server sessions.
I will see if it will be safe to improve more.
Eros
I cleared the cache in firefox and restarted it and still no change, no ads.
Did you search the smf forums? I am sure other's would be experiencing similar problems.
About the file limits, just in the attach file section it says up to 10mb files can be uploaded.
If not possible, then perhaps changing that display to show actual limits will be good.

Yes, I also changed that to report "Maximum attachment size allowed: 4000 KB" (1 Mb less than php.ini allows, just in case)
Oh I see that now Eros just did quick look at adding an attachment. That is good!!

Ads should now be activated for all.
It seems it was a forum option to activate them by user groups. Ads were active only for Administrators :D
Ciao
