While thinking about modeling this week and the game while doing other things, I think it will be a lot nicer and easier to concentrate on the instant action game and finish it. Make it as polished as we can. This way it can be out there gaining players and develop a following while we work on the next version of the game the mission version. Besides instant action is low poly and the mission to look nice is going to need higher poly models to look great. Well my thoughts really.

What we need for cool polished instant action game:
1 cool studio music and splash
2 cool thinBasic splash and music
3 cool TopDown3D splash and music
4 - Options screen
- configure controls
- adjust volumes
- pick level to play
- pick difficulty to play
5 - Have vertical planet and space background game as now
- Have a side scroller version (planet surface or capital ship surface)
- Make boss ships for each level
- Make a Capital Boss Ship maybe every 5 levels
- Make all sorts of powerups (shields, health, firepower, speed etc)
- Have cool music for all levels and special Boss action music
6 Keep high scores grouped by difficulty and level beaten on a server somewhere so all players can see how they do

I am sure I am forgetting somethings, but been a long day before my trip for the weekend. I will take my notebook and hopefully be on to read and post.

Hi kryton9,

nice sorted thoughts !
I am just not sure if it is less work than on story oriented game :D

I apologize but my head is TopDown story oriented now :-[, but please ignore me :)
I had even dreams about one mission ( this is pathologic, I know, but still better than my model scaling deviation ;D)

Bye,
Petr

P.S. Yesterday I got working shooting of asteroids in 3D ;)

That is great Petr about shooting the asteroids.

How about this then, that we don't have to use the same models for instant action and mission? This way the detail level can be different.
I am not happy with the models I made so far, especially the last 2 shuttles. I want to master having nice textures and cooler looking ships than those turned out. But my skills with Blender are not quite there yet. So I thought I will work on the low poly models for instant action first and hopefully develop the skills to do the kind of job I want on the mission games.

The other option is we use models I make that are not the way I want as place holders and tests for the mission level till I can make better replacements.

Since you are mission mode, I will work on putting a gun on the shuttle and work on the space stations. Hopefully by the following weekend I will have stuff for you as I hopefully will be back on normal schedule to work on the project.

Thanks for being so excited and making such project on the game!!

Hey, you cannot say something like that without posting any code! You will kill us!

;D

Ok,

I will post the code.
It is very basic, camera is the same ... just shooting from Volkswagens non-existing guns :).
I have some troubles with speed, so it needs to be optimized better.

Petr

kryton9,

please don't tell me you are not good at Blender, this is simply not true :)
From your latest production I like a lot the Volkswagen, so my sister and everybody I show it.

To inspire you, please see image of car our family had some years ago.
Car died and was replaced with more todays car, but I liked it a lot and always imagined it to be tuned as spacecraft. It is old one, but with some chrome details, hmmm :D Maybe it will inspire you :)

Thanks Petr, that car looks so cute. My shuttles don't have that cool style, well no style at the moment. Hopefully I can make something so cool.

I am happy you like it :)
I like your models a lot, only thing I miss is their texturing, but I know it is the hardest part.

I am tinkering with texturing and I came up with a nice grimy look, but it is hard putting the logos and markings where I want. I will experiment some more the next few days, figuring things out. It is worth it as you say, texture really make a model.
