Dear all thinBasic users,
after a week, thinBasic web site and community forum is up and running again.
It took a week to recover not because the situation was so catastrophic but because the crash followed in some way one of the Murphy's law: if anything can go wrong it will at the most inopportune time ( http://www.murphys-laws.com/murphy/murphy-laws.html )
Anyway, what happened Saturday 30/06/2012 was :
web site slow down
I connected to thinBasic server (we have a dedicated physical server into a factory farm in the center of Italy) but could not see anything strange.
suddenly my session was disconnected and I wasn't anymore able to connect to it
I called my provider help desk and they said that the operating system disk crashed and the OS restarted asking the original CD and start repair.
I asked to please try to repair it but they said that they do not do that kind of work.
A technician told me that they would have changed the disks (we have some disks in mirror), installed the OS and the remote software setup (Parallel Plesk: http://www.parallels.com/products/plesk/ ) and attached the old disks into a USB port for 24 hours letting me recover data and whatever was needed for the server.
I accepted and I was able to recover all the data in few minutes (I also had a backup on my computers so data has never been a matter)
It took me a week to do the job because it is a period I'm very busy at work and I didn't had time to dedicate to thinBasic web recovering. But now here we are again.
I still have to finish many little tuning because the new installation of Plesk Panel had all the most recent applications like php, MySql and I had to adapt all php scripts to the new engine versions.
Let me know if you encounter anything not working or not working fine and I will try to fix it asap.
If for any reason you cannot log in into thinBasic forum, please clear your browser cache and if this does not solve the problem, send me a mail: support at thinbasic dot com
Sorry to all for this big delay in recovering
Ciao
Eros
