did you have any experience with flash on cell phones? I have only basic (sadly not BASIC) one, so cannot judge how this was useful.
I remember I was on conference where guys presented Machinarium, game written in Flash, and it seemed interesting to me, for a moment I even considered getting the Flash for my sister.
Recently, there has been lot of enhancements on desktop Flash reported - GPU acceleration, 3D graphics, ... so it does not seem exactly like something to do before ending the product as a such.
Maybe they try to regroup workers from mobile team for the desktop to push it forward more due to increased competition?

I think it mainly related to Apple vs Adobe war.
Flash is a blackbox so for Apple (who likes to have full control) it is impossible concept to have a blackbox inside an iPhone.
The excuses was that Flash was consuming to much energy.
No I do not have direct experience on using Flash on mobile but the news is important.
