I all,

I got a strange inquiry I would like to share because I'm confused with it.
It is mixing different things but at the same time it seems very precise.

This is an enquiry e-mail via http://www.thinbasic.com from:
cook <cdcd@mailinator.com>

You are soliciting money without any obvious posting of your legal terms. Who owns freebasic? What kind of 'freeware' is it? Can a user reverse engineer it? Make money with it? You must link your license terms on the front page.

My reply has been the following (maybe too strong but I was upset by the inquiry):

First of all, please qualify yourself: who are you?
Second: what does freebasic matters with thinBasic? I can tell you: nothing. Why are you asking "Who owns freebasic?" maybe you are confusing two different project?

License terms are exposed during thinBasic setup and can be found into appropriate directory named \thinBasic\License\ after installation
Read them and take appropriate deductions/behaves.

I'm not soliciting any money. Show me any way you can find where I or any other people involved into the project have solicited any money?
We have just a paypal button where users happy to freely use thinBasic can donate anything. CAN DONATE and not ARE SOLICITED. Do you get the difference?

Reverse engineer thinBasic? If you need it, do it, what's the problem?
But if you ask in the forum I'm sure you will not need to reverse anything because I and others will give you all the info you need.

Let me know if you are satisfied by my reply otherwise I'm here to reply.
Ciao

Your reply is fully valid.

I think it is some kind of troll, if you have a look at his email, you can see:

Ok, let's check what mailinator is? (from the website, found via google)

Mailinator is a free, disposable email service for everyone who wants to protect their identity in blogs, forum and social media.

No official authority would communicate with you this way, not speaking of the tone of the original message, the typos and other issues.

Eros,

Did this e-mail come with an attachment or link to somewhere? (1st clue it's spam)

I would have treated it the same way I do for scam e-mail asking me to help them with the millions of dollars they need my help depositing or a notice from FedEx, UPS or God.

If the person had a real concern, they could have posted it to the forum rather than a private e-mail.

I HATE SPAM !!!

John
