View Full Version : Fanless CPU
search google for fanless cpu
the heat sink is big and heavy (1 KG), now many manufacturers make those novelties, someday using a mechanical fan over a cpu will be a shame.
look at its picture:

Another trend I have noticed with over clocked gamer boxes is to immerse the motherboard in a non-conductive oil to disperse heat.

I thought about the oil thing a couple of years ago but having what would be a rather large fryer didn't quite seem too good an idea. Another draw back could be carbon particles in the oil conducting, imagine the gfx card failing and trying to change it with all that oil :(

You would have to consider the additional energy involved in producing such a massive (presumably aluminium) heat sink.
Made from 1 Kg recycled of aluminium this would require about 4 megajoules to cast. And this can be balanced against the cost of a running conventional cooling system at say 10 watts x 4000 hours x 3600 seconds: about 150 megajoules per year.
So I would give a definite yes to the large heat sink. Even if it was made from new aluminium (20 megajoules/Kilo?) it would cover its energy costs in less than 2 months!
