Eros,
The exciting aspect of Win8 that I picked up is that you can develop a desktop application using browser based tools. (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ...) This was a smart move on Microsoft's part and will promote a more open OS and cross platform interoperability.
Win8 may just be the OS that makes me take a second look at the Microsoft's offerings. Now if they can only get rid of the nut case CEO running the company.

This is a big step for Microsoft at the right time. If it works as advertised and doesn't drive the cost of the devices up too much, it will be a winner.
I have been very disappointed by the cost of tablets so far with Android. For a decent tablet with fair performance you are looking at $300 for the cheapest one, most of the others are $400 to $600 way overpriced if you ask me and way above what was being touted 2 years ago. The $300 and $400 devices are recent additions, the average price has been around $500 which is crazy. They have dual core notebooks for around $350-$400.
If a Microsoft tablet comes out for $500 or less, it could really hurt android.
I do know they have android tablet for $150 to $200, but these are too slow and not really worthy if you want to do anything other than just surf the web, at least the ones I played with at the stores.

It's going to be interesting to see how MS deals with .NET & Silverlight (http://www.zdnet.com/blog/microsoft/microsoft-needs-to-tell-windows-8-developers-now-about-jupiter-and-silverlight/9608?tag=nl.e539) with the new Win8 direction.
