my neighbor's dog barks at anything, preventing me from sleeping, unless I plug up my ears.
but it has the side efect of not waking up from my alarm clock, a friend told me I needed a "screaming meanie", what's a screaming meanie?

I don't think you need to plug your ears, Johan.

You can put it anywhere in the room, it doesn't seem to matter.

I have the 980, but I only use it on the low speed.

The 580 only has the low speed.

The 980 has both the low speed and a high speed (the high speed is louder).

I doubt you will hear the dog anymore.

And, you will still be able to hear your alarm clock.

here is an extreme suggestion:
there is an electronics circuit to rebel mosquito by an ultra sound called "ultrasonic mosquito repellent". and
the shepherd use a whistle which produce an ultra sound ie beyond human hearing, to call the dog.
i was about to suggest a whistle which produce a very scary ultra sound for the dogs, but searching "ultrasonic dog repellent" i found that this is already available.
you must dedicate a whole day , then waiting, and every time the dog bark, use that ultrasonic sound for several seconds; so the dog will know that if he bark he will be punished by a scary sound.
but you must not use it without the dog barking; since he may adapt himself to the sound, just in the time of barking. and the apparatus must be a secret else your neighbour may make a complaint in the court. and also keep in mind the other innocent dogs.
also measure the distance, and this device effective range.

KipKay does the wildest projects. I watch his videos a lot. I did not see that one however. That alarm would give me a heart attack and I would never wake up :)
