More devices programmable with OpenGL, more happy I am :)
The price seems little too high for me even with the cheapest models, but the features and battery life are very nice!

michael, if you can, perhaps wait some weeks or month to buy this new hype iPad ;)
- no usb !
- no card slots
- no camera (webcam for videochat) or for "augmented reality" !
- the weight is too high for me (0.680 kg)
- you need three hands to handle the iPad, two hands for holding, one for using it
- price is about 500-800 dollar at the moment (too high in my eyes, sorry)
- akku you cannot change !
they will have to upgrade their product with new features so the beloved apple forum said and wish this one!
nevertheless nobody knows or can say what will grow up with this technological new iPad product ? :) wish apple the best! software technology is high, beautiful and great, as usual !
best regards, frank

Franck, don't compare it to an IPod, Mac or IPhone. It is something new. It is related to the IPod/Iphone but the focus is really on an easy surfing experience with multimedia usage. Plus the ebook thingy. The webcam, yes. That is needed. But I am sure the next version will have it. But a regular camera? Why? I would never hold that thing in front of me to take pictures. You use a real camera for this. You use it on your lab or on the table. Like a netbook. So there is no need to have 3 hands. The price is just right when you now that apple products are well made. Plus when I see how mcuh other ebook readers cost, it is damn cheap for what it can do.
I love it and if I have the spare cash, I will get it.

All what Apple does is really well made.
But ... the costs!
Not the initial cost that one can judge right considering the quality. I mean the costs after you buy it. I have the impression Apple products push people to spend much more than what they expect (after the purchasing).
But I can be wrong.

?? Which cost? I spent almost nothing. The apps I use since when I board mine where very cheap. Or freeware.
If I want to upgrade OSX, it is now 29 Eur. That is nothing compared to the cost for a windows upgrade.

I mean, iPhone without an online contract is not worth. It gives its best when online.
Here in Italy having an iPhone contract for online internet connection can cost even 4000 Euro for 2 years.
I suppose it will be the same for iPad: it will give its best when you are online and not in your wireless home net but when outside so I imagine contracts for mobile connections will be (again) very high.
More: Apple has made a contract with Murdock for online news. Never seen Murdock give something for free.
Than you will have digital books, music, specific applications, ...
And for all those things you are few clicks far from your credit card charge.
I'm not saying all this is wrong. I really think that Apple does a great business that no-one (so far) is able to compete with. I'm just saying that one (as consumer) must pay attention to costs connected to impulsive moves.

$500 = 358 Euro
$500 = £310
But I bet it goes on sale for £500 or 500 Euro, its not for me, I am not a fan of the iphone but by April I will probably have one for work

Correct, I was talking about a mac. For the IPhone, you have to get a contract. It's a mobile, so it needs one.

Our second and third level management in my company just got IPhones too :) I wonder how they get along with it. I don't see it as a business phone.
I for one have been waiting for this technology a long time. Just as Netbooks are so cool and surprised all the pundits, which I never understood how they could not think it would take off.
I think eventually a tablet about 12" in screen size will be perfect. At the rate that techology changes, I am sure by next time this year we will have some incredible new devices. These are some cool ones just to give us an idea of what is to come.

All this competition will just bring even more things than we can even envision.
I am amazed from my first eeepc to the current netbooks, they came a long way in a very short time!
And gaming with built in Accelerometers and touch is amazing and adds really to gaming immersion. Just imagine when you get bigger displays.

"just yesterday I was looking at my iPhone thinking "Hmmm, I wish this thing didn't fit in my pocket and couldn't make phone calls." Then I looked over to my netbook and couldn't help but feel it would benefit from losing the keyboard and being made of 50% glass. Finally apple gives me what I wish."

I saw that IPadNano thingy before
I think they wanted to keep the price under $500, which for Apple is a low price. I bet in future versions it will get cell phone capabilities too as almost all tablets will.
It needs a built in HD camera for photos and videos. multitasking and telephony to make it a complete device in a very usable size. I am hoping that we will see something along these lines before the end of the year!

Sorry Kent, but do you want to hold something up and shoot photos with? I think it's to big for it. Same goes for phone functionality.
I don't see it at all for such a big device.
Mike, I understand what you are saying and that is why it is nice to have many manufacturers and each manufacturer many models. We all look for different things in devices. Look at how many iPod models there were. And the iPod features went into the iPhone, but the new iPods also are available with features of the iPhone without the cell part. So even in similar sized devices by the same company we see this cross use feature list happening.
I am sure there will be many just sort of ereader, surf the web pads out, but I for one will look for that all in one.
You need the camera for video conferencing. And with such a nice screen size having the ability to take photos and videos and just watch them would make it nice. As a cell phone you would use in speaker phone mode, that is how I use my cell phone now when home. When out, you have your bluetooth ear piece, so it is all workable. The main thing is to have just the one device with you to do it all. I think the tablet format is that form factor for the near future.
