Hi all,
while we approaching official thinBasic new release (we are finishing beta testing of version 1.7.10 here (http://community.thinbasic.com/index.php?topic=2899.0)) I would like to change the official icon used for thinAir. Current thinAir icon is quite anonymous and personally I'm tired of it. Plus it is "old style" and when installed on systems like Vista or Windows 7 it looks very bad.
So what a better option than asking here to thinBasic community if someone of you has some idea about what could be the new thinAir icon?
Thanks a lot in advance to everyone would have some spare time to suggest/produce something.
In case you do not want to share your idea/material in public please use the following email: support@thinbasic.com

As always, count me in. :eusadance:
Can someone share the specs of a windows 7 compatible graphic file which Eros can produce an icon from?

Hi Mike,
Vista/7 support 256x256 PNG icons. I think the problem with current thinAir icon is that it is 32x32, but created by upsampling 16x16 image. This gives it a blurry look.
I think in first place it will be needed to create nice 32x32 icon, then we can think what next.
Here are my two creations, but they lack sharpness...
Petr
edit: added new sharper set, magenta on preview image means "transparent area"

Very nice Petr.
TA, in the USA, is an abbreviation for Tits and Ass. Although that sort of logo could act as a muse for male and lesbian coders, I don't think many would equate it with a code editor.
I will try to come up with something too.
Here is what I came up with tonight. 256x256 png

Thanks a lot Kent.
I think your picture is very nice but too elaborated. It is too close to a real image other than to an application icon.
TA is a scaring acronym, isn't it?
Here in Italy (and I think all over EU is quite the same) we do not use acronyms too much, we tend to say all words instead of using just first letters. Maybe not efficient like using acronyms but will create much less ambiguity.
I'll try to think simpler when I sleep and see if any new ideas come to mind :)
Couldn't sleep.... made 2 more.. simpler but still not enough... now I can go to sleep :)

Kent, both are great, really :eusaclap:
Windows XP, by default, employs 48×48 pixel icons so I need a 48x48 too for WinXp or so OS.
I will made some tests to see how it will looks.

Here are some ideas, if you want more info about them just let me know.
Are any of these the sort of thing you are look for?
Kent, what does the donut symbolize?
@Mike:
Like Homer Simpson, I love donuts :)
Just kidding, well I do like donuts, but the idea was O for oxygen to represent Air as a symbol.
I originally thought about a Balloon, but smalltalk/x is using a hot air balloon.
I like your icon too Mike. I will make an alternative more 3d type of it. It is simple and sticks to the color scheme nicely.
@Eros: Thanks. I have no idea of how they will look smaller. I will work with Mike's idea next, that is a nice clean simple
design.
Ok here is an alternative of Mike's design.

MikeHartlef, MikeClease, Kent,
very nice icons!
Regarding XPs, I used my pixel-o-meter, and all desktop icons seems to be 32x32, although I read about the 48x48 too on the net. So maybe if you could provide set of 32x32, 48x48 and titan edition 256x256 it would be ideal.

hi all, your icons becomes better and more beautiful at this page, very nice !
here three new ones from my side. 48x48 file size icons.
what about a picture of an animal as logo? a bird ? ;)
the limits for icons are nearly open, not so easy to find best fitted idea :)
best thing would be to make a "poll" to decide for right thinair logo by users ?
best regards, frank
@Frank, I like your ideas too... I will work on alts of those tonight.
@Petr, the default might be that size as you write, but on windows 7 you can go really big with the icons in views. See attachment.
Could we have a different icon for each size that looks good at that size?

hi all.
qt: do we have already a new logo for thinbasic and this topic is finished ;) ? what's the status quo about this topic at this board?
=> see new thinbasic beta release. there could be the logo from petr, so far I can remember. / I am missing a poll for new logo, wouldn't be better ? I though we collect some ideas, isn't it? there are much more people here they're having ideas I can imagine. a dead line for sending in new ideas would be great too.

do we have already a new logo for thinbasic
The logo was for thinAir.
I have absolutely no problem with Eros picking the logo on his own. After all it is his language and he should finally decide. I think we need no poll.
Plus I like the logo he picked. :)

I'm always open to new ideas/material.
So far Petr icon was the one I liked more for its simplicity and color mix (of course in my opinion).
Maybe I need to fix the quality of it and test in different OS.
I saw the new icon and stopped work on playing with any new ideas. Petr's is nice, especially for being such a small icon.
Here is some freeware that might be useful

i have tried it, but failed to change the icon on packed thinbasic file, it issues an error message can't save to a packed file. but realy it is a very great program.
for fun only i have tried this plan:
1-suppose you have a packed file mathart.exe
1- make a .bat file such as mathart.bat , edit it and just write mathart.exe in the first line.
2-downoad the free utility Batch To Exe Converter 1.5 from here:
http://www.f2ko.de/downloads/Bat_To_Exe_Converter.zip
3-run the bat to exe and choose the .bat file and the output file such as mathart2.exe as in the picture:
http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/7525/battoexe1.jpg
4-select include a file, and select the mathart.exe
http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/8135/battoexe2.jpg
5- click on the tab versioninformation and select an icon
http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/9603/battoexe3.jpg
6- click compile, and you will have the file mathart2.exe with a new icon, just one problem is that it opens two dos windows.
included the file mathart2.exe
PS:when we choose Invisible applications from options the dos window of the bat will not be visible only the dos window of the thinbasic visible.
so we have get rid of one dos window
